Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Position Summary

The Direct Support Professional at RewireInHope, is a vital member of our team responsible for providing support to eligible individuals who require assistance with daily living, self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills. This role focuses on improving participants' ability to independently reside and actively participate in their integrated community. The Direct Support Professional operates under the guidance and supervision of the Program Coordinator and is committed to upholding the values of our agency.

Essential Functions

Under the direction and supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Direct Support Professional is responsible for but not limited to:

  1. Skills Development: Assisting individuals in acquiring and enhancing basic living and employment skills is essential for promoting independence. Collaborating with participants encourages the development of self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills that are vital for independent living.

  2. Personal Care: Providing personal care according to individualized service plans supports participants' health and well-being. This includes assistance with daily living activities tailored to each individual's needs.

  3. Environmental Maintenance: A clean, safe, and organized living and working environment is crucial. Assisting individuals in maintaining these conditions contributes to their overall quality of life and comfort.

  4. Schedule Management: Helping participants in organizing and managing their schedules is key. This support ensures that they can effectively plan their activities and appointments, fostering a sense of autonomy.

  5. Transportation: Transportation services are essential for participants to access necessary activities and appointments. Providing reliable transport helps facilitate their engagement in everyday life.

  6. Reporting and Compliance: It is imperative to report any incidents of abuse, neglect, or exploitation in line with agency policies and regulations. Vigilant reporting safeguards the well-being of all individuals involved.

  7. Team Collaboration: Working collaboratively as part of a team enhances service delivery. Upholding agency values such as dependability, adaptability, professionalism, and teamwork fosters a positive working environment.

  8. Positive Interactions: Interacting positively with participants is fundamental. Treating individuals with respect, dignity, and compassion not only builds trust but also enhances their overall experience.

  9. Confidentiality: Maintaining confidentiality of the individuals receiving services, including their health information, is a critical responsibility. Safeguarding this information ensures trust and compliance with regulations.

  10. Medication Administration: Administering medications, insulin, and tube feeding according to assigned responsibilities is crucial. Compliance with relevant certifications ensures that participants receive the care they need safely.

  11. Dietary Support: Assisting with menu planning and meal choices that align with recommended dietary guidelines promotes healthy eating practices among participants. This support is vital for their health and nutrition.

  12. Training and Data Collection: Active participation in staff training, in-service sessions, and team meetings is necessary for professional development. Collecting data helps monitor progress toward personal objectives, enabling tailored support.

  13. Additional Duties: Carrying out any other duties assigned by the Program Coordinator or agency leadership is essential for maintaining flexibility and responsiveness to the needs of the program and its participants.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older and in good standing as a student.

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED.

  • Valid driver's license with proof of insurance.

  • A driving record that qualifies for insurability.

  • Successful completion of a comprehensive background check

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Honest, reliable, dependable, and professional demeanor.

  • A respectful and dignified approach when interacting with individuals receiving services.

  • Sound judgment and the ability to make rational decisions concerning service recipients.

  • Capability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Pay Range: $17/hr - $20/hr
